Appreciating exercise and an answer to why I love it so.

Moving right along and the start of a new week is upon us, Over all I did very well this weekend with all aspects of this whole better health thang, almost. Saturday was date night with wify and Clash of the Titans was decent, I felt that it didn't stick to the story exactly but a good watch none the less, call me a movie nerd but Bubo needed to be a character in the flick and he wasn't so it was lacking for me. Anyways, I did get to the gym Saturday afternoon and made an awesome BBQ chicken on the grill with a honey pecan sauce that was pretty amazing with some of my rice and beans but I ended up going over on my calories because of the movie treat. Now before you start snapping your fingers and rolling your eyes because you think that I ate popcorn and chocolate know that I bought an apple, a gallon of green tea and a bag of light sour cream rice cakes to have as a movie snack so though I went over it was by about 250 calories because of the rice cakes and I actually woke up Sunday lighter than Friday.

Sunday we went to a flea market and that messed up my eating program as it was hours between breakfast and lunch and I did not bring anything to drink and refused to pay three dollars for a 12oz bottle of water. I did stay under calories for the day but by 3:00pm I was sunburned if only slightly, tired and hungry and we bought some Turkey breast for lunch and headed home to a picnic lunch out on our picnic table. I did get a couple decent scores at the flea market in the way of a new collapsible fishing pole for my back pack and an old school Starr X bottle opener to put out on my porch as someone is always looking for a way to crack a Corona open for the low low price of $11 for both items, $8 for the pole and $3 for the opener. My father came up for a visit so we didn't really do anything that could be called exercise besides the few hours walking around the flea market but I felt good about the day over all and everyone seemed to have a good time.

My rod and opener.

close up of the bottle opener.

I am heading into this week with high hopes that I will have a great weigh in again come Friday and will do everything in my power to make sure that if I don't that it was not for lack of bust assedness. Being so close to that 300 pound mark has gotten me all Ornery and I am planning to bombard my body with exercise this week while staying within my calorie range which should produce a good number come weeks end. Making good choices where food is the subject is a HUGE part of why I have been able to take off 225 pounds and keep it off, even when I slowed way down with the pace I was still not gaining which showed me that I can maintain without too much change in what I was doing and that really is one of the most important things. If I were to lose all of the weight that I need to lose because I was starving myself and doing an unrealistic plan then when the time came to maintain I would be lost. I am confident that I will keep every last pound off once I reach my goal weight and I will continue to get healthier and stronger every day because I truly have changed the way that I see food and exercise.

In five days time we shall find out how much closer to my goal that I am, in five days time will be another "official" for the blog weigh in and every day that I follow my plan I will be stronger than I was the day before. This is just how it is for me, I don't want to know anything else, I don't want to be on the wrong side of health ever again and I am refusing to walk over there again. I get asked often in emails and or comments about my exercise and the way that I feel about it, in fact just this morning I got an email saying " How did you come to love it as you do?" referring to exercise. I suppose the only answer is that when you have seen 500 plus pounds and what that has to offer, being unable to run with your child, or walk with your wife without turning 12 shades of red and getting soaked with sweat, sore back for 3 days after, or just being left out of most of the things that happen daily and go unappreciated by somebody that's never been as good as tied to a couch an appreciation for the movement occurs. I would compare it to caging an animal for years and making it watch the other animals run care free and untethered while it sat in the cage unable to do anything and then one day opening the cage and letting it go, that animal appreciates the freedom more now than it did before the cage and that's the only way that I can explain it. That and the fact that I love the way that I feel after a good solid workout, my wife says to me when she notices that I am in a not so good mood "Go outside and run around for a few minutes or something" and she says that about 30 minutes of hiking/walking that I suddenly get a case of diarrhea of the mouth so there is obviously more going on than just the un-caging but it is how I feel about it.

My day is starting and I have lots to do so this episode of as the fat guy turns has run its course, Thanks for following and thanks for all of the support. Make sure you drink that H2O and the rest is up to you so before you slip that brownie into your mouth think about how its gonna look on your ass and then decide if you want it, I bet ya put it down.

The bike is back

I have an easy feeling over me because I have my bike back, so now I feel like I can get in a good cardio workout in no matter the weather. for the first time in probably 2 months I rode the bike and I have to admit that I must have come a ways physically in that time as I rode for 20 minutes and barely felt it, and back when I was riding the bike exclusively for exercise 20 minutes felt like a lot more work. In fact, I only stopped riding because of the seat hurting my behind, so with that said if anyone that rides a bike for exercise reads this and has a suggestion for a nice cooshy seat or knows where one can be had for a fair price I would love to know. Being limited by the seat making me uncomfortable is not good. the workout went like this, start the mp3 player and load it with some Bad Religion and turn that up loud, got on the bike for 21 minutes, 20 mins of riding with me sprinting for a minute at a time every 5 minutes and a 1 min cool down. I stretched and did 50 push ups, 20-15-15, and onto some light dumb bell work, 3 sets of 10 concentration curls, 3 sets of 10 hammer curls, followed up with some lateral raises, 20 to the front 20 to the sides (using fairly light weight for the laterals) . finished up with a nice stretch routine and a glass of water. Even though that was not what I would consider a hard workout, it was a good solid routine and I can really feel it this morning especially in my biceps. I want to try and work a routine like that into the schedule three times per week while keeping the cardio up, and the walks steady through out the week. I feel like I have made it to a point in this weight loss regimen where I can step the exercise up a bit to include some more strength movements because losing muscle and strength is a worry of mine with this much weight to lose. so with that said, even though I am very sore this morning its that good sore, and I will just ride the bike today without the weights, I may or may not do some push ups because I don't want to over do it this being the beginning of the soreness again.

My calories ended up at 1285 for Monday, I ate balanced and spread through out the day. I did not write down the times etc but the food I did, but because I don't have it structured on my excel sheet I am not going to post the exact times and meals for today, I plan on putting the menus back up here regularly in these posts. My weight has stalled at the same weight that I was on Friday, Usually by Tuesday I am down at least a pound so this weeks weigh in should be interesting, and hopefully I do lose something by Friday. I have to admit that I am slightly worried about it but it is what it is and if nothing drops so be it, but hopefully because of the reintroduction of the bike that will not happen and the weight will keep on dropping. the week is looking up because of the bike and yet down because of the no drop as of Tuesday, there is not a gain so I guess thats a positive.

Until next time...

Exercise

20 mins on the bike and 30 push ups followed by a stretch routine. I am still annoyed but the exercise helped curb it a bit. I plan on riding the bike again later in the day. I get annoyed easily if I cannot figure something out, which doesn't happen often. this weirdo weight drop/raise has me annoyed.

this pretty much sums up my week so far where my weight loss is concerned.

Did I mention that I was annoyed?

More Exercise and thought

More Exercise and thought

Ok its 11:30 am, I just got back in from a 25 minute walk, its beautiful outside today. I was also doing some thinking about my intake and decided to look at my sodium intake for the past week. I am WAY above the needed sodium for the last 4 days averaging 220% sodium for any given day, it ranged from as low as 171% to 273% for the last 4 days. so...with that said maybe thats why I appear to have not lost anything? not sure yet. BUT I am going to watch the sodium and get back to drinking like a fish for the rest of the week and see how it goes.

I will figure this out, if I haven't already

Exercise

OK its an hour after my AM post I just did 20 minutes on the bike and 40 push ups, a stretch routine and I am going for a walk in a bit and will likely ride the bike this afternoon again. I am actually annoyed at this stall with the weight dropping. I will not take no weight dropped for an answer. so in response to the lovely ape in my previous post "Oh what to do, what to doooo?" the only thing that I can think of...work out harder and try and figure out why I stalled. Yes I know these things happen when losing weight BUT I won't take that for an answer, after all I am Wonder boy....

There WILL be a loss by Friday anything else is unacceptable.

Exercise

Exercise

Its 9:15 pm and I just finished my workout, 25 minutes on the bike and 40 push ups. I ran into a small bump earlier and could not do it until now. I do not want to skip another day.

Ok its now 9:31 pm, I just remembered that there is a total eclipse tonight the totals out around 10:04 pm and it is absolutely crystal clear outside so I just ran out and took a look at it. its about half way covered currently and I snapped a few pictures, this eclipse is suppose to be red so I will try and get some pictures of it at its peak and i will post them on the AM's entry. you will have to excuse the not so gorgeous pictures as I do not expect them to come out beautiful as I am shooting through a digital, (a nice digital but still) Ihope to get at least a few decent pics.

ok now that I am off track and want to go look at the moon this post is officially done! lol

Exercise

I have not posted an exercise entry in a bit so I shall today. I rode the bike for 15 minutes and did my push ups as well as my stretch routine. I have to say that I am enjoying watching my monthly minutes and push ups go up each time I work out. I feel better and better each day and I thank everyone for the support that I have received thus far.

I have been reading more and more peoples success stories, Like David Smith who lost 401 lbs, and theres a Gentleman named Charles on 3FC whose story is amazing as well with him losing more than 300 lbs, and now this Varsity blues actor fella Ron Lester who lost 315 lbs that I posted in my previous post. it gives me hope that I may be the next success story.

I know I am the next success story!

Exercise and a meal

Exercise for Thursday went well, I rode the bike for 20 minutes and did my push ups and then stretched. easy peasy. Also I thought I would post up a quick easy and tasty chicken salad I have been making lately.

I use 3oz of roasted chicken breast and I chop it up fine, add 3 slices of dill pickle chopped up, 1 tbsp of miracle whip, and pepper to taste. mix well in a bowl until its all even and put it on some pumpernickle bread add some tomato and there you have it. I only use about 2.5 oz of the chicken on a sandwich and eat the last bite :) it consists of the items below, I added a lite yogurt as a side. its 395 calories if you eat all of the chicken and add the yogurt and for just the sandwich its 310 calories, and very tasty if I do say so myself.

3oz roasted chicken 165
2 slices pumpernickle bread 120
3 dill pickle slices 5
1 tbsp Miracle whip 35
1oz sliced tomato 10
1 dannon lite yogurt 60

Exercise

Around 9:30 am I decided I would go out for a walk before it started raining/snowing whichever it may have been, News says some "Precipitation" for the afternoon, the only thing I saw was a light snow flurry while I was walking. not quite sure how far it was but we walked for 45 minutes playing and throwing a ball and chasing it, my daughter asks for the walks now :) I came home after the walk and fed the kiddo a snack and did my push ups, I plan on riding the bike later on, but with a 45 minute walk I may just pass on the bike for the day.

Snow and Ice on the trees in my yard from last time it snowed

The excitement! during our walk we ran into an unfriendly dog, he looked like an older dog I thought someone was with him when I first saw him up the street, and thats why we kept walking in that direction. as we got closer and he saw us he started barking, growling and the hair raised up on his back then he ran towards us. I picked up my daughter and turned her away from the stupid dog and planted one on his mouth/face with my size 14 , he yelped and ran away and the whole time my daughter was saying "dad look doggy" I laughed afterwards at that. other than the "dog incident" it was a nice walk. I may go and knock on the door of the house where the yard he was in is and mention that they may want to leash the dog if its going to be running at people, as it may not get off so easy next time, and I walk that route regularly and don't want to worry about it every time I walk.

More snow and Ice on the trees in my yard from last time it snowed

Its been a good day for getting some movement into my day so far and like I said I will probably ride the bike for a while later, maybe after dinner.

Monthly minutes etc etc etc.

Monthly minutes etc etc etc.

It would appear that I did not make my monthly minutes goal for the month, since it was just a guesstimate as to what would happen I am not worried about it in any way at all. the push ups counter says I did not make the push ups either but it lies! lol I do so many push ups in a day that its insane really. the only ones that get logged are the ones that I do right after riding/walking so I did make the push ups and then some.

These are the numbers for Jan
195/270 ~ Bike
280/320 ~ Push ups

I will shoot for 15 mins a day 5 days a week for the bike this month which comes out to 315 minutes, I am confident that I will go over that limit this month.

0/315

for push ups I will shoot for 25 per day 5 days a week which brings me to 525 push ups for the month of Feb.

0/525

If I walk I will count that time towards the bike minutes and will note it on the exercise post for that day.

something I thought of (last night actually) I seem to lose roughly 1 lb per day says since I have had the scale. imagine what I have lost in this first months time? I will never know but my wife and I guess roughly 30lbs, if it is really 30 wow! lol . anyways I just thought I would post a late morning entry just because I was thinking about some things.

Exercising for Me.

Exercising for Me.

Ahhh my favorite part of the day...not really ;) not yet anyways. it was raining all morning and I wanted to go for a walk, I put my 2 year old down for her nap and pretty much as soon as she fell asleep the sun came out and its clear and windy right now, but the kiddo is sleeping so I had to ride the bike. it was a 20 minute ride today followed by some push ups and stretching. then a light lunch of soup. all in all a decent afternoon so far if not boring. I can't wait until it warms up, I have had that park on my mind all day, theres a hike through the bird sanctuary that I have never went on, no reason really for not going but now for some reason I gotsta do it.

So as far as the exercise goes for me I am in full on exercise mode and being very adamant about making sure I do it every day. because I know if I stop then I won't want to start again so thats that, I am doing it and I am not stopping. It takes a whole 30-45 mins out of my day to do it and not doing it is much worse than taking that tiny piece of time from my day, and honestly I feel better after I work out. hopefully some old habits return and I get into a zone (getting there already) and eventually get back into lifting weights on a regular basis.

Thanks for reading

Exercise

I was feeling good and it is a bit warmer than it has been here today so I decided to go on a walk about. I just walked around the neighborhood for 30 minutes with my daughter, I smartened up and brought a ball that we played with as we walked. it was a nice walk. then a bike ride was in order along with the normal calisthenics that I have been doing so a good day exercise wise! and so far my Lunch and small breakfast was great so all in all a good day.

a sketch from the TV series Heroes, I just wanted to make the post more interesting as this is one of my favorite TV shows. I have many of the paintings that Issac painted in the series.

Exercise hath returnith.

By 9:15 am I had ridden the bike for 15 mins, done 30 push ups, a stretch routine and some crunches. all while my daughter cheered me on lol. Clifford and Word why was the back ground sounds for the days exercise as this is my daughters time lol and those are her favorite cartoons. I plan on riding again when she naps this afternoon, but nothing is written in stone :) I stayed off of the scale this morning as my "official weigh in day" is tomorrow, I hope to see a good number for what was lost for the week. I am sure that I will be on here posting the loss/gain 2 minutes after I weigh in tomorrow lol, off to a good start today it seems and I am in a good mood because I don't feel any of that cold or w/e it was that I had for the past few days, so it would seem I beat it :)

Exercise

Exercise

15 more minutes on the bike and a few more push ups down and I am feeling great today, because I know my weight and I know that in a week I will have something positive to gauge my weight loss/gain against. I set a short term goal for myself to get under the 500lb mark. this is getting interesting for me now, I have all kinds of stuff going on in my head as far as goals etc go, right on up to some longer term goals, one of the longer term goals is to be able to run 2 miles again. over all feeling for the day is great.

very short post but I wanted to get it in there, as usual thanks for reading. Thanks

Exercise part deux

Exercise has commenced once again! I got in a 20 min bike ride along with the push ups and a 10 min stretching routine. feeling good again...wait did I ever say I didn't feel good...hmmmm Still feeling good!! :)

I gotta say, I didn't want to ride the bike today but once I got on I did 20 minutes and only stopped because I didn't want to run myself down, it is after all only Monday. the house has been full of kids running around playing all day, a friend stopped by with her daughter so I almost felt like it was going to be hard to get a ride in, but they all left to the mall and the house was/is mine!

No music today I started before I got a chance to set up the mp3 so I just watched tv while I rode today, which surprisingly made the time go by easily. nothing more to post up so I will just post a cool Alice in wonderland pic I have on my hard drive.

Buying bread from a man in Brussels

Buying bread from a man in Brussels

He was Six foot Four and full of muscles, It was an 80's kind of day for the music (a couple 70's) which was cool because, well I knew all the words to all of the songs and that helps make the time pass. 15 mins on the bike, 30 push ups in 3 sets of 10. I believe I could do 30 mins easy on the bike (maybe not easy but do it) if not for the damn seat hurting my behind. I guess I will have to get use to it before I go off on a 30 min ride ouch! heres the play list for the day, there were a couple more but I closed the player and can't remember exactly what else was on there.

1. Ah ha ~ Take on me
2. Men at work ~ Down under
3. Crowded house ~ Beds are burning
4. The Clash ~ Train in Vain
5. Men without hats ~ Safety dance
6. Cory Hart ~ Sunglasses at night
7. David Bowie ~ Ziggy stardust

Exercise

Exercise for 1/15/08 is fini, 15 minutes on the bike, followed by push ups and squats, left the crunches out as its after 2:00PM and I have not eaten lunch yet and my belly is growling. Music for the day was Black train Jack. This is my favorite music to work out to as the songs are relatively short and I know all of the words so 15 minutes passes quite fast and effortlessly, if you don't count the sweat and heavy breathing lol. I updated the "Monthly minutes" and I am thinking about adding a push up counter as well, just for the record it was 2 sets of 15 today.
